Why Get An Associate Degree In Accounting?
Most states require you to have a bachelor's degree in accounting before being allowed to take the qualifying exam to become a certified public accountant. There are a small handful of states that do not. These are: Colorado, Delaware, New Hampshire, and Vermont. An associate degree in accounting may be enough. Alternatively, if you want to mix academic with work life, it might be an idea to get an associate degree in accounting and then study a Bachelor's at a later date when you have managed to build up some work experience and funds to pay for it.
What Sorts of Jobs can I Get with an Associate Degree in Accounting?
The type of accountancy work you can get will be largely routine. You may be able to find work as a bookkeeper, accounts clerk, or auditing clerk. A few firms may take you on for junior accounting duties if you have made it clear that you want to progress with your education further. You might find work with government agencies such as the IRS, or you may be employed by a bank or credit union. If you think you might enjoy a customer-facing role, then a position as bank teller or customer service advisor might appeal. Alternative positions that usually require an associate degree in a relevant subject include bill and account collectors.
