Finance Degrees

What is Finance?
Finance concerns the value and monetary transactions of goods and stock within a company, including lending, borrowing, investments, valuations, tax, dividends, and shares. Irrespective of the industry sector, these terms, and measurements are used across the board, from banks, to government offices, educational instructions, charities, and businesses large and small. While not every organization will necessarily offer shares or dividends, there are certain things, which are vital to every organization such as rates of return and financial planning. Typically, these subjects may be covered in finance degrees: financial statement analysis, rates of return, time value of money, risk, bond/stock/firm valuation, capital budgeting, capital structure, leverage, working capital management, financial planning, dividend policy, and mergers & acquisitions.

What are the Job Prospects Like For Those With Finance Degrees?
Job prospects for graduates are pretty good in general. According to the Bureau of Labor, you can expect to earn on average about twice what a high school graduate would earn. Obviously, this also depends on subject and area in which you live as well as employment availability. You may find employment with banks, insurance company, investment houses, or mortgage brokers. You might even be interested in becoming a finance director for a small to medium sized organization. You may also be interested in becoming a finance analyst, tax inspector, insurance underwriter, or personal financial advisor. Some of these roles do require further training, certification, or membership of a governing body depending on which state you reside in.
