Tax Accountant
What Does a Tax Accountant Do?
Tax accountants specialize in offering advice on tax and calculating tax liability and completing tax returns. This may be for a private individual or a corporation. Some may advise on the most cost effective way of receiving income in order to reduce tax by creating a tax haven. They may offer advice on tax efficient business decisions too, for example setting up a factory in a particular region may attract less tax than one built elsewhere. There may even be certain types of investment, insurance, or gift that can reduce a person or company's liability. Most tax accountants are public accountants and the vast majority of those are also certified.

How Do I become a Tax Accountant?
Most accounting firms require a bachelor's in accounting as a bare minimum. Qualifying to become a certified public accountant carries with it many advantages. States vary in what is required. Most states and the District of Columbia need one hundred fifty semester hours - only a little more than a standard bachelor's, plus an exam. There are a handful of states that are in the process of moving to this requirement. The following states currently have no such condition, at the time of writing, and will consider a number of year's relevant experience: Colorado, Delaware, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The exam is administered by AICPA . All States use this four-part Uniform CPA Examination. The exams last two days and only about a quarter pass first time. You are allowed to carry over credits and retake papers.
